Horror is beautifulShot in Adelaide in 2007, Beautiful, the feature debut of Kojo Pictures tells the story of Sunshine Hills, which on the surface appears to be much the same as any other Australian suburb, but within its living rooms and bedrooms many secrets, mysteries and myths are whispered. The most whispered of all is the recent disappearance of Amanda Howatt, a sixteen-year-old high school student. She is the sixth young woman to disappear in as many years. Like the other girls, there is no reason for her disappearance and there is no trace of her. All that remains is suspicion and gossip.
Like his neighbours, fourteen year old fragile outcast Daniel Hobbs is entranced by these rumors. Daniel’s two obsessions are his camera and Suzy Thomson, a seventeen year old neighbor from across the street. Suzy is his first ever crush, a Lolita who embodies the dangerous combination of innocence and blazing sexuality. On the eve of summer holidays, and a week before his thirteenth birthday Suzy entices Daniel with a mission. In return for her friendship he must help her uncover the truth behind the disappearance of the missing girl and the identity of the occupants in number 46. To do this he must use his camera to record everything, sneaking into the lives of those around him to uncover the mystery behind the missing and dead girls.
